ON 13 MAY, MAKE IT A CLASSIC MOTHER’S DAY

MDC start lineSunday, 13 May will be the fifteenth Mother’s Day Classic. Since its inception in 1998 more than half a million women, men and children have walked or run on Mother’s Day raising $10.8 million for breast cancer research.

The Mother’s Day Classic is more than a fun run. It is a morning to get together and remember, celebrate and support women with breast cancer. And to raise money for the research that will defeat it. In 2012 we aim to beat last year’s record of 120,000 participants and $3million raised.

Women in Super inspired and continue to organise the Mother’s Day Classic because they care about the health of women, as well as their financial wellbeing. One in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and many more will be impacted. Beating breast cancer will go a long way to improving women’s lives and that will only happen through research. Proceeds of the event go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research programs into prevention, detection and treatment.

Everyone can get involved whether walking, running, volunteering, cheering or simply by donating. Participants range from breast cancer survivors, friends and families remembering those with breast cancer, to school and corporate teams and keen runners, as well as the many men, women and children who just want to enjoy a fun, healthy and memorable Mother’s Day.

Walkers and runners wear tribute cards pinned to their backs carrying personal messages dedicated to loved ones diagnosed with, or lost to, breast cancer. A minute’s silence before the start gives everyone a chance to reflect on the impact that breast cancer has had on our lives.

The 2012 Mother’s Day Classic will be truly national with Darwin participating for the first time. All capital cities now host an event as do major regional centres and towns of various sizes. No location is too remote or too small; they all share the same enthusiasm and desire to help cure breast cancer.

Help raise funds for breast cancer research and improve the future for Australian women by registering to walk, run, fundraise or volunteer on Sunday 13 May. And if you can’t make it on the day you can sponsor someone, shop from the new 2012 merchandise range or simply make a donation to show your support. Go to www.mothersdayclassic.com.au.

ME Bank has been the proud major sponsor of the Mother’s Day Classic for the past seven years and looks forward to continuing its support in 2012.
