The Adelaide Metropolitan Fire Service has rolled out Australia’s first fully operational pink fire truck, unveiled in January to launch Adelaide’s MDC campaign.

Shaun Ruxton has spent his career dealing with dangerous situations but did not expect to have to fight for his life against breast cancer. Shaun, the Commander in Charge of Fire Investigation, was diagnosed a few days before Christmas in 2004 and is among the 1% of men diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

“I kept it bottled up…in hindsight, it was the worst thing I have done, you need to talk about it, so that they understand what you’re going through.”

After 5 years of treatment and follow ups, Shaun is now enjoying life in remission to the full, trying overseas, scuba-diving and is now a keen underwater photographer. When the opportunity came up to get involved with the Mother’s Day Classic event in Adelaide, he jumped at the chance and was integral in making the pink truck happen.

The #MDCPinkTruck will be attending number events around Adelaide as part of its operational duties in the run up to 8 May. If you see it around town, remember to take a snap and post it to social media so we can follow its adventures.
