Chair and co-founder of Mother's Day Classic, Louise Davidson, was announced last month as the winner of the Local Hero category at the Victorian Australian of the Year Awards in Melbourne.

Premier Denis Napthine has highlighted the generosity of Victorians at the Victorian Australian of the Year Awards in Melbourne.

"The 2015 Victorian recipients – Rosie Batty, Professor Samuel Berkovic, LouiseDavidson and Thomas King – were chosen from an impressive pool of environmental and humanitarian advocates, sporting greats, medical researchers, and community leaders.

"The Awards comprise four categories – Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year, and Australia's Local Hero, with State winners progressing to be finalists in the National awards.

Rosie Batty, Victorian Australian of the Year, and Louise Davidson, Victorian Australia's Local Hero, have both overcome personal losses to earn this recognition.

Rosie Batty, a household name, actively campaigns against domestic violence after the loss of her son Luke, while Louise Davidson, inspired by her mother's battle with breast cancer, co-founded the Mother's Day Classic and has raised $24.3 million for breast cancer research," Dr Napthine said.

"These Victorians all have different stories, but one thing in common – a belief in a better Victoria and making a difference for their communities. I would like to congratulate all award recipients for their selfless contributions to our society," Dr Napthine said.

A most deserving winner! We wish Louise the best luck in the national Australian of the Year awards in January.
