The Brisbane MDC for 2016 will be at the Cultural Forecourt, the Parklands South Bank and involves a 4.5km and 8km walk and run along the Brisbane River, South Bank and West End.

If you enter after midnight on Sunday April 24 2016 you must collect your race number from the Registration Marquee in the Southbank Cultural Forecourt. The Registration Marquee is open on Saturday 7 May 2.00pm – 5.00pm and Sunday 8 May from 6.00am.

Race packs, race numbers & timing

RACE numbers

Will commence being sent out starting early April 2016.

Enter by midnight on Sunday 24 April 2016 to have your race number mailed to you before the event. If you enter after midnight on Sunday 24 April 2016 you must collect your race number on the morning of the event from the number pick-up marquee, on at the event site on Saturday 7 May between 2.00pm -5.00pm.

Merchandise is sent separately. If you registered several people at once, you will not necessarily receive all the race numbers on the same day as they are processed individually. If you are concerned that you have not received your race number, please contact the Brisbane event managers on 07 3139 0398.


Please note that all runners and walkers need to pin their race number on the front of their top (with safety pins) before arriving at the event. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.


Only runners will be given a timing tag, which will be attached to the back of your race number. Please ensure that your timing tag is attached correctly. You will not receive a time if you do not have a timing tag.

Please arrive at the assembly area at least 30 minutes prior to your event in order to allow plenty of time to register and warm up.

The Course

The start line is located on Grey Street. To access the start line the assembly area will be via Russell Street and Little Stanley Street into Grey Street. The event will start from South Bank and will travel along Montague Road and onto Riverside Drive alongside the beautiful Brisbane River. The finish will be along the beautiful Brisbane River at Southbank.

The 4.5km and 8km runs are separate to the 4.5km and 8km walks. Both events go in a clockwise direction around the circuit.


Results will be available here on the Mother’s Day Classic website from Monday 9 May 2016. Remember, only runners will be timed. 

Event day

Assembly area

Is located at the Cultural Forecourt, the Parklands South Bank, Brisbane. The start line is located on Grey Street. To access the start line from the assembly area will be via Russell Street (in front of the ABC building) and Little Stanley Street into Grey Street.

Information marquees: An information marquee will be located at the Cultural Forecourt. If you have any queries please go to the information marquee. 

Tribute wall

Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected on day from the information marquee. A special Tribute Wall will be located at the assembly area. Participants can choose to pin their tribute cards to the wall after their run or walk.

Cloak Room (bag drop)

A gear tent will be located at the Cultural Forecourt, Southbank Parklands for storage of your clothing during the run/walk. Bikes cannot be placed in the gear tent. Please use the tear off strip from your race number to attach to your backpack or clothing bag.

Please do not place valuables in the gear tent as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.

First aid

First aid will be stationed close to the finish line and a bike course crew will be roaming both the 4.5km and 8km events. If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.

Water stations

Water will be provided at the assembly area, on the course at approximately every 2.5km, and at the finish line.

There will be toilets available at The Courier-Mail Piazza and the Cultural Forecourt on the day of the event.

Baby change

Yes, there are baby change and feed facilities available in The Courier-Mail Piazza or near the Streets Beach area in the centre of the Parklands.

Meeting places

Be sure you arrange a clear meeting place for your family or team. We recommend meeting in the assembly area. The start line will be very crowded and a difficult meeting place.


New this year, SuperSport Images will be out on course photographing participants as they complete the 2016 Mother’s Day Classic. SuperSport uses bib recognition technology which will allow you to search for your photos easily after the event. These photographs will be available for purchase following the event.

Main stage

A number of live entertainment acts, delegates, celebrities and sponsors will be appearing/presenting on the main stage. The excitement doesn’t stop there as the lovely duo Diana and Barney will be performing on course to keep you motivated.

Musical acts that you can expect on stage are event favourites Alphabet Street and Hummingbird. Find out more about these great acts below!

Alphabet Street is a Brisbane four-piece specialising in vintage funk/soul/rhythm n' blues covers of yesteryear. Stepping onto the scene in 2014, Alphabet Street will put a glide in yo slide and a dip in yo hip as you step aboard the mothership. An outfit designed to fill the dancefloor or sweeten the ambient soundtrack for all night owls and moonlighters, The Alphabet Street crew are super-excited to showcase their repertoire and entertain fellow Brisbanites with delicious funk and soul classics. Hummingbird will treat your ears to an eclectic blend of your favourite pop, folk and rock tunes from the past and present. This acoustic duo will brighten up the atmosphere of any occasion with soaring vocal harmonies and rhythmic acoustic guitar, backed by keyboards and percussion. Kids Zone

The Mother’s Day Classic includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include jumping castles, face painting, bubbles and roving entertainers.


A variety of food options will be available on the day, including coffee carts and a sausage sizzle. South Bank also has a number of cafes and restaurants to choose from.

Getting there

Public transport

South Bank is conveniently located in the heart of Brisbane with frequent public transport available including local buses, trains and ferry connections.


There are two train stations in South Bank;

  • South Bank Station (accessed from Tribune Street) –South Brisbane Railway Station (accessed via Melbourne Street).


South Bank has two Busway Stations available to visitors. They are located in Melbourne Street (Cultural Centre Station) and at the corner of Colchester and Tribune Streets (South Bank Busway Station).

Brisbane City Buses stop at several locations around the South Bank precinct. For further information visit

CityCats and Ferries

The CityCat Terminal is located outside the riverside restaurants on the Clem Jones Promenade. CityCats travel upstream as far as the University of Queensland and downstream to Brett’s Wharf, Hamilton.

The Inner City Ferry is located at South Bank 1 & 2 and goes to the City, North Quay and Kangaroo Point. For more information on timetables visit

Car parking

SW1 Car Parks on Merivale and Cordelia Streets is providing discounted parking for Mother’s Day Classic Participants. Parking bays are available from just $5. To take advantage of this offer, you must book online using the offer code MUM16. 

Parking will be available at the Parklands, South Bank underground car park which is accessible via Tribune Street. For full parking fees visit

If you choose to park on the street, please obey all parking restrictions as per normal.

Runner's please note

Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag attached to your race number will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave of your chosen distance.

Age category medals

4.5km and 8km runs winners for each age category. Age categories - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ will be presented with a medal.

Spot prizes

All participants are eligible to win great spot prizes including weekend packages, meals and gift baskets.


Can I change the event I am in?

Yes, but you must let us know via email at or phone on 07 3139 0398. If you decide to change your event on the day, please go to the Help Desk at Number Pick-Up marquee at the Cultural Forecourt so the change can be recorded. See below for requirements of changing events.

Changing from walk to run: It is imperative you let us know as you need to be issued with a new race number and a timing device. You will be charged an additional $5 for your new race number and timing device (please note it is mandatory that all runners wear a timing device).

Changing from run to walk: Please let us know as we will need to update your records, however you will keep the same race number even though it has a timing tag attached to the back.

Changing distances only:
Run – It is imperative you let us know as we will need to update our records for timing purposes. You will retain the same race number and timing tag.

Walk – No need to advise us, just depart at the correct walk start time and complete either one or two laps of the course, according to your chosen distance.

Please note that you will be charged a $5 administration fee for event changes. 

What if I lose my race number or timing tag?

Walkers - Please collect another race number from the Help Desk in the Number Pick-Up marquee at the Cultural Forecourt on Saturday 7 May between 2.00pm-5.00pm or on the morning of the event for an additional fee of $5.

Runners – Please collect another race number with timing device attached from the Help Desk in the Cultural Forecourt on the morning of the event. There will be an additional charge of $10 total for replacement of the race number and timing device.

All participants must wear a race number. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event. This is for safety reasons and an event requirement.
