Thank you to everyone who took part in the 20th anniversary Mother’s Day Classic in 2017.

The Course

The start line is located on Grey Street. To access the start line the assembly area will be via Russell Street and Little Stanley Street into Grey Street. The event will start from South Bank and will travel along Montague Road and onto Riverside Drive alongside the beautiful Brisbane River. The finish will be along the beautiful Brisbane River at Southbank.

The 4.5km and 8km runs are separate to the 4.5km and 8km walks. Both events go in a clockwise direction around the circuit. 


Being involved and completing the Mother’s Day Classic is a challenging and rewarding experience which is further enhanced with a little preparation - for both the walking and running events. Our community training partner, parkrun, provide the perfect opportunity to get some kilometres in your legs before the big day. They organise free, weekly, 5km times all over Australia. You find one near you here.

Event day

Assembly area

The Assembly area is located at the Cultural Forecourt, South Bank Parklands, near the Wheel of Brisbane. The start line is located on Grey Street. To access the start line from the assembly area will be via Russell Street (in front of the ABC building) and Little Stanley Street into Grey Street.

Information marquees: An information marquee will be located at the Cultural Forecourt. If you have any queries please go to the information marquee. 

Tribute wall

Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected on the day from the information marquee. A special Tribute Wall will be located at the event. Participants can choose to pin their tribute cards to the wall after their run or walk.

Cloak Room (bag drop)

A gear tent will be located at the Cultural Forecourt for storage of your clothing during the run/walk. Bikes cannot be placed in the gear tent. Please use the tear off strip from your race number to attach to your backpack or clothing bag.

Please do not place valuables in the gear tent as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.

First aid

First aid will be stationed close to the finish line and a bike course crew will be roaming both the 4.5km and 8km events. If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.

Water stations

Water will be provided at the assembly area, on the course at approximately every 2.5km, and at the finish line.


There will be toilets available at The Courier-Mail Piazza and the Cultural Forecourt on the day of the event. Public toilets are also available at the halfway mark of the 8km course.

Baby change

Yes, there are baby change and feed facilities available in The Courier-Mail Piazza or near the Streets Beach area in the centre of the Parklands.

Meeting places

Be sure you arrange a clear meeting place for your family or team. We recommend meeting in the assembly area near a clear landmark (e.g the Wheel of Brisbane). The start line will be very crowded and a difficult meeting place.

Auslan interpreters 

Auslan interpreters will be available during the start line stage and during official presentations

Main stage

A number of live entertainment acts, delegates, celebrities and sponsors will be appearing/presenting on the main stage. 

Kids Zone

The Mother’s Day Classic includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include a jumping castle, face painting and roving entertainers.


A variety of food options will be available on the day, including coffee carts and a sausage sizzle. South Bank also has a number of cafes and restaurants to choose from.

Getting there

Road Closures

There will be a number of road closures in and around the event site. It is highly recommended that you use public transport to get to and from the venue. Road closures covering the course(s) will be implemented for the duration of the event. There will be some vehicles on the course – event personnel and local access traffic.

Normal road rules apply. Follow directions of Police, event staff and course marshals at all times.

Public transport

South Bank is conveniently located in the heart of Brisbane with frequent public transport available including local buses, trains and ferry connections.


There are two train stations in South Bank;

  • South Bank Station (accessed from Tribune Street) – Best option to access to the start line area.
  • South Brisbane Railway Station (accessed via Melbourne Street).


South Bank has two Busway Stations available to visitors. They are located in Melbourne Street (Cultural Centre Station) and at the corner of Colchester and Tribune Streets (South Bank Busway Station).

Brisbane City Buses stop at several locations around the South Bank precinct. For further information visit

CityCats and Ferries:

The CityCat Terminal is located outside the riverside restaurants on the Clem Jones Promenade. CityCats travel upstream as far as the University of Queensland and downstream to Brett’s Wharf, Hamilton.

The Inner City Ferry is located at South Bank 1 & 2 and goes to the City, North Quay and Kangaroo Point. For more information on timetables visit

The Mavis Robertson Award is a perpetual trophy awarded to an individual in recognition of their contributions to the Brisbane Mother’s Day Classic. In 2016 this was awarded to Linda Tucker – team manager for Sunsuper.

Team awards and presentations will be held on the main stage in the assembly area from 10.15am.

Runner's prizes

All winners of the 4.5km and 8km running events will receive a prize, further details to be provided closer to the event. 

Runner's please note

Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag attached to your race number will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave of your chosen distance.

Age category medals

4.5km and 8km runs winners for each age category. Age categories - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ will be awarded with a medal. Age category medals will be posted to winners after the event.

Spot prizes

All participants are eligible to win great spot prizes including weekend packages, meals and gift baskets.
