The Course

View Courses

Walkers and runners will be using the same course from Wendouree Drive near Rond Terrace and will run or walk around the Central Basin of Lake Burley Griffin starting to the east and heading towards Kings Bridge. The 5km run/walk completes one lap of the course while the 10km runners will complete two laps of the course.

Start Line - The start line will be located on Rond Terrace, Commonwealth Park, and the course will follow the footpath along the scenic Lake Burley Griffin. All participants will be directed to the start line following their warm-up aerobics.

Finish Line - Will be positioned adjacent to Lake Burley Griffen in Rond Terrace.

Results will be available here on the Mother’s Day Classic website from Monday 15 May 2017. Remember, only runners will be timed.

Event day

Assembly area

The assembly area is located at Rond Terrace, Commonwealth Park at the bottom of Anzac Parade.

Please utilise the underpass joining Constitution Avenue and Commonwealth Park to access the assembly area. It is not safe to cross Parkes Way at any given point in time. 

Information marquees

There is an information marquee located at the assembly area. If you have any queries please go to the information marquee.

Tribute wall

Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected on day from the information marquee. A special Tribute Wall will be located at the assembly area. Participants can choose to pin their tribute cards to the wall after their run or walk.

Cloak Room (bag drop)

A cloak room marquee will be located in the assembly area for storage of your clothing or bags during the run/walk. Bikes cannot be placed in the cloak room.

Please use the tear off strip from your race number to attach to your backpack or clothing bag.

Please do not place valuables in the cloak room as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen.

First aid

First aid station will be located at the finish line. If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.

Water stations

Water is provided at 3 drink stations: two on the course and one at the finish line.


Toilets will be located at the assembly area.

Baby change

There will be a baby change and feed marquee in the main assembly area.

Meeting places

Be sure you arrange a clear meeting place for your family or team. We recommend meeting in the assembly area. The start line will be very crowded and a difficult meeting place.


The Mother’s Day Classic includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include warm-up aerobics, roving performers, a food court, free massages, entertainment plus a kid’s activity area with face painting and a jumping castle.

A number of delegates, celebrities and sponsors will be giving brief talks on the main stage. The main stage will also be used for the memorial minute of silence, warm-up aerobics and award presentations.

There will be coffee carts and food stalls including a sausage sizzle.

Prizes and trophies

All participants receive a 2017 medallion.

Age category medals

Mailed after the event for the winners of the 5km and 10km running events in each age category. Age categories - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

  • Trophy for the largest 'Gym/Personal Fitness/ Wellbeing' team 
  • Trophy for the largest 'Family and Friends' team 
  • Trophy for the largest Tertiary team 
  • Trophy for the largest Government Department/Agency team 
  • Trophy awarded to the best dressed competitor 

Runner's please note: Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag attached to your race bib will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave of your chosen distance.
