The Geelong MDC for 2016 will be at Eastern Beach Reserve, Waterfront Geelong and involves a 4km and 8km walk and run.

Enter by 9.00am on Monday 18 April 2016 to have your race number mailed to you before the event. If you enter after 9.00am on Monday 18 April 2016 you must collect your race number on the morning of the event from the number pick-up marquee, on at the event site on Saturday 7 May between 12.00pm-3.00pm.

Race packs, race numbers & timing

RACE PACKS

Will commence being sent out on Wednesday 1 April 2016.

Enter by 9.00am on Monday 18 April 2016 to have your race number mailed to you before the event. If you enter after 9.00am on Monday 18 April 2016 you must collect your race number on Saturday 7 May between 12.00pm-3.00pm or on the morning of the event at the Registration and Race Plate Marquee.

Your race pack will contain your race number and timing chip if applicable. Merchandise is sent separately. If you registered several people at once, you will not necessarily receive all the race packs on the same day as they are processed individually. If you are concerned that you have not received your race number, please contact the Geelong event managers on 03 5261 5511.

RACE NUMBERS

Please note that all runners and walkers need to pin their race number on the front of their top before arriving at the event. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.

TIMING

Only runners will be given a timing tag, which will be attached to the back of your race number. Please ensure you are careful with your timing chip as if this is damaged you will not receive a time for your race.

On the day timetable

Please arrive at the assembly area at least 30 minutes prior to your event in order to allow plenty of time to register and warm up.

Results

Results will be available here on the Mother’s Day Classic website from Monday 9 May 2016. Remember, only runners will be timed.

Event day

Assembly area

The assembly area is located at Eastern Beach Reserve, Waterfront Geelong.

Information marquees

The information marquee is located in the assembly area. Please ask the volunteers or go to the information marquees if you are unsure of anything.

Tribute wall

Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected on day from the information marquee. A special Tribute Wall will be located at the assembly area. Participants can choose to pin their tribute cards to the wall after their run or walk.

Cloak Room (bag drop)

Clothing and bags may be left in the bag storage area located on Eastern Beach Reserve adjacent the finish line. Please use the tear off strip from your race number to attach to your backpack or clothing bag.

Please do not place valuables in the cloak room as we cannot accept responsibility for valuables lost or stolen. Bikes cannot be placed in cloak room.

First aid

First aid stations will be located:

  • At the water point on the course, on Eastern park Circuit, opposite the East Geelong Golf Club
  • Adjacent to the finish line on Eastern Beach reserve

If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.

Water stations

Water stations will be located at the following points:

  • 4km course: 2.5km point – opposite the East Geelong Golf Club
  • 8km course: 3.6km and 6.2km points – opposite the East Geelong Golf Club
  • Adjacent to the finish line

Toilets

The toilets are located at the Geelong Life Saving Club building adjacent to The Boathouse Restaurant. There will also be toilets in the assembly area.

Baby change

There will be a baby change and feed marquee in the main assembly area.

Meeting places

Be sure you arrange a clear meeting place for your family or team. We recommend meeting in the assembly area. The start line will be very crowded and a difficult meeting place.

Entertainment

The Mother’s Day Classic includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include warm-up aerobics, a food court, entertainment plus a kid’s activity area with a petting farm and face painting.

A number of delegates, celebrities and sponsors will be appearing / presenting on the main stage. The main stage will also be used for the memorial minute of silence, warm-up aerobics and team presentations.

Food

At the food court in the assembly area you will find a selection of food, coffee and drinks to enjoy including a Mother’s Day Classic BBQ.

Getting there

Car parking

With very limited parking available it is strongly advised that you utilise public transport or catch a lift.

Further details regarding parking will be advised closer to the event date.

ROAD CLOSURES

The following roads will be closed for the Mother’s Day Classic in Geelong:

  • Ritchie Boulevard: 6.00am–10.00am
  • Garden Street – between Malop Street and Eastern Beach Rd: 7.15am-8.00am
  • Eastern Beach Rd between Yarra St and Garden St: 7.15am–10.00am
  • Eastern Park Circuit and Podbury Crescent: 7.15am–10.00am
  • Hearne Parade: 7.15am–10.00am

Please note: patrons of the Botanic Gardens and the Geelong East Golf Course, will be allowed access via service lanes. Please follow the directions of traffic controllers. Users of the boat ramp may access the boat ramp via Limeburners Road.

All participants receive a 2016 medallion, which cleverly converts to a key ring.

  • Trophy for the largest Government Department/Agency team 
  • Certificate awarded to the best dressed competitor 

Age category medals: mailed after the event 4km and 8km runs winners for each age category. Age categories - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Presentation ceremonies

The run presentation ceremonies will be held on the main stage with trophies awarded to first, second and third placegetters. It is expected that winners are present to accept their prize.

Presentations will commence on the main stage at 9.45am.

Spot prizes will be randomly handed out and will be available for collection from the merchandise marquee.

Runner's please note: Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag attached to your race bib will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave of your chosen distance.

Can I change the event I am in?

Yes, but you must let us know via email at info@rapidascent.com.au or phone on 03 5261 5511. If you decide to change your event on the day, please go to the number pick-up marquee in the assembly area at Eastern Beach Reserve so they can record the change. You may need a new race number so please contact us.

Please note that you will be charged a $5 administration fee for changing events. If you are changing from a walk to a run you will also be charged $5 for the timing fee.  

What if I lose my race number or timing tag?

Walkers - Please collect another race number from the number pick-up marquee in the assembly area at Eastern Beach Reserve on the morning of the event for an additional fee of $5.

Runners – Please collect another race number with timing tag attached from the number pick – up marquee in the assembly area at Eastern Beach Reserve on the morning of the event. There will be an additional charge of $5 total for replacement of the race number + timing tag.

All participants must wear a race number. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.
