The Gold Coast MDC for 2016 will be at Pratten Park, Broadbeach and involves a 4km and 8km walk and run.

Enter by 12noon on Thursday 21 April 2016 to have your race number mailed to you before the event. If you enter after 12noon on Thursday 21 April 2016 you must collect your race number on Saturday 7 May between 1.00pm-5.00pm from the Registration Marquee at Broadbeach or on the morning of the event.

Race packs, race numbers & timing

RACE PACKS

Will commence being sent out on Wednesday 13 April 2016.

Enter by 12noon on Thursday 21 April 2016 to have your race number mailed to you before the event. If you enter after 12noon on Thursday 21 April 2016 you must collect your race number on
Saturday 7 May between 1.00pm-5.00pm from the Registration Marquee at Broadbeach or on the morning of the event.

Your race pack will contain your race number and timing chip if applicable. Merchandise is sent separately. If you registered several people at once, you will not necessarily receive all the race packs on the same day as they are processed individually. If you are concerned that you have not received your race number, please contact the Gold Coast event managers on 1300 132 891.

RACE NUMBERS

Please note that all runners and walkers need to pin their race number on the front of their top before arriving at the event. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.

TIMING

If you wish to participate in either the 4km or 8km run categories you are required to wear a timing chip and the cost of timing will be included in your registration fee. Walkers will not be timed and will not be issued with a timing chip.

Runners will be given a timing tag that is attached to the back of your race number. Please attach your race number to the front of your chest prior to starting the event. The timing tag on the back of the race number will be activated once you cross the start line. You are NOT required to return your race number or timing tag after the event – please dispose of it thoughtfully.

Please arrive at the assembly area at least 30 minutes prior to your event in order to allow plenty of time to register and warm up.

The Course

The 4km course heads north from Pratten Park for a short distance before looping around and heading south down to Ventura Road at Mermaid Beach; then returning northbound to Pratten Park.

The 8km course heads north from Pratten Park for a short distance before looping around, heading south towards Nobby’s Beach Surf Club; then returning northbound to Pratten Park.

Results

Results will be available here on the Mother’s Day Classic website from Monday 9 May 2016. Remember, only runners will be timed.

Is located at Pratten Park, Broadbeach on the Gold Coast.

Information Boards and Marquee

The information boards and marquee are located near the start line. Please ask these volunteers or go to the information boards or marquee if you are unsure of anything.

Tribute wall

Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected at the event from the information marquee. A special Tribute Wall will be located at the assembly area. Participants can choose to pin their tribute cards to the wall after their run or walk.

Cloak Room (bag drop)

A gear tent will be located next to the registration tent. We do not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items, so please do not put any valuables into storage. You will need your event bib number to collect your items after you have finished your event.

Safety at the event

For safety reasons, no bikes/skateboards/rollerblades/scooters/dogs are allowed on course.

Prams are permitted.

First aid

Medical personnel will be at the finish line and on the course. Please notify a marshal or event personnel if you experience any difficulties or see another participant having trouble finishing the walk or run.

Water stations

Three drink stations will be positioned along the Mother’s Day Classic course. The 4km walkers and runners will have two opportunities to collect water, and the 8km runners and walkers will have three opportunities to collect water.

Toilets

A council toilet block is located near the start line and additional portable toilets will be positioned around the council toilet block.

Meeting places

Be sure you arrange a clear meeting place for your family or team. We recommend meeting in the assembly area. The start line will be very crowded and a difficult meeting place.

Entertainment

The Mother’s Day Classic includes lots of extra activities for kids and adults. These include warm up aerobics, performers, food stands, free massage, entertainment plus a kids activity area with face painting.

The start line stage will be used for the memorial minute silence and warm-up aerobics.

Presentations will commence on the main stage in the event venue at approximately 9.00am or when the last participant has crossed the finish line.

Food

Coffee carts and a sausage sizzle will be on offer, plus more!

Getting there

Car parking

Parking is available in the side streets in the Broadbeach areas. However if you choose to park on the street please obey all parking restrictions as per normal. Please note road closures will be in place for the event, so if you need to leave the event early we advise you park outside the road closure area. There are also large parking facilities nearby at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibitor Centre, Jupiter’s Casino and Broadbeach Shopping Centre.

G:link Light Rail

The G:link Light Rail operates throughout the Gold Coast, connecting Broadbeach through to Southport. The closest station to the event is Broadbeach South, just a few minutes’ walk to the start line. For more information visit ridetheg.com.au 

Road Closures

Please be aware that Hedges Ave, Albatross Ave, and some sections of Old Burleigh Rd, Broadbeach Blvd, Queensland Ave, Australia Ave and Britannia Ave will all be closed to traffic from 5.30am. Please take this into consideration when arranging transport to and from the event site.

All participants receive a 2016 medallion, which cleverly converts to a key ring.

Age category medals

Mailed after the event 4km and 8km runs winners for each age category. Age categories - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Runner's please note: Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag attached to your race bib will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first male and female in each running event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave of your chosen distance.

CAN I CHANGE THE EVENT I AM IN?

Yes. If you have registered after 12noon on Thursday 21 April 2016, you can contact us before 12noon Thursday 5 May 2016 to make changes to your entry. Otherwise please see the Help Desk at the event on the Saturday (1.00pm-5.00pm) or Sunday (from 6.00am) and we will record the change.

This is for competitor safety as well as ensuring you are aware of the correct start time of your event. You will retain the same event number if you’re only changing your distance. If you’re changing between a run or walk then you will then you will need to be reissued with a new event number.

Please note that you will be charged a $5 administration fee for changing events. If you are changing from a walk to a run you will also be charged $5 for the timing fee.  

WHAT IF I LOSE MY RACE NUMBER OR TIMING TAG?

You can pick-up another race number from the Help Desk in the registration marquee either on Saturday 7 May from 1.00pm - 5.00pm or on the morning of the event after 6.00am. All participants must wear a race number. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.
