The course follows the roads around the Royal Botanic Gardens, with the finish line on St Kilda Road. The start line is on Alexandra Avenue, near the Pillars of Wisdom. Both the run and walk events go in a clockwise direction around the circuit.
The 4km and 8km runs are stageged separately to the 4km and 8km walks.
Results will be available here on the Mother’s Day Classic website from Monday 15 May 2017. Remember, only runners will be timed.
Is located at Alexandra Gardens. Please follow instructions from event staff for directions to the start line or ask one of our friendly volunteers wearing information T-shirts for assistance if required.
The information marquees are located at various sites throughout the assembly area in Alexandra Gardens, and at the start line and finish line. Please go to the information marquees if you are unsure of anything.
Tribute cards can be attached to your top in support or memory of a loved one touched by breast cancer. Tribute cards can be downloaded from the website, requested via the registration process or collected on day from the information marquee.
A special Tribute Wall will be located at Alexandra Gardens. Participants can choose to pin their tribute cards to the wall after their run or walk. A selection of the tributes will be displayed at Federation Square in the week following the event.
Participant clothing will be placed in individual storage areas during the event. Participants should attach the tear-off strip on the bottom of your event number to your backpack or plastic clothing bag by looping one end of the tag through the hole. When you drop your clothing off, an attendant will write the storage area on your race number. Please keep your event number as you will need it for bag pick up when you finish. Please do not leave valuables in your bags. The Mother’s Day Classic will take all care, but no responsibility, for valuables or clothing that are lost or damaged. Any clothing not collected on the day or left at the start line will be given to charity.
You cannot check bikes into the bag drop.
There are two first aid stations on the course, positioned at the 2km/6km mark and the 3km/7km mark, as well as roving first aid bike crews. There are also first aid stations at the assembly area and the finish area.
If you require medical assistance while out on the course, please notify the nearest course marshal and they will contact the appropriate personnel to assist you.
Water will be provided at the assembly area, on the course, and at the finish line.
Toilets are located on Boathouse Drive, adjacent to the boatsheds. There will also be toilets located on Alexandra Avenue, just past Swan Street Bridge, on the way to the start line. A small number of toilets will also be located on the course.
There will be a baby change and feed marquee in the main assembly area.
Be sure you arrange a clear meeting place for your family or team. We recommend meeting in the assembly area. The start line will be very crowded and a difficult meeting place.
There will be free entertainment from the main stage including warm-up aerobics before each event, appearances from our celebrity and community ambassadors.
We’ve created two zones this year – big kids zone with a Rock Climbing Wall and Face painting, and little kiddies will be well catered for with a Petting Zoo and the Spinning Tea Cups. We have also managed to squeeze in our old favourite, fairy floss. After your run or walk head to the kids zone ticket marquees and purchase as many tickets as you like. Then relax and let the kids run wild and enjoy!
Ticket pricing – Everything is $3 each (includes Face Painting, Fairy Floss, Rock Climbing and Tea Cups). Or purchase a Kid’s zone pass for $10 and get unlimited access to all of the above accept Fairy Floss.
Look out for all an array of entertainers roaming the course and across the site. There will be balloon and fairy clowns, stilt walkers and plenty of live music.
There will also be giveaways for the best fancy-dress costumes - so get creative and remember to come dressed to impress!
At the food court in the assembly area you will find a wide selection of food, coffee and drinks to enjoy including Mother’s Day Classic BBQ and healthy fruit salads.
All participants receive a 2017 medallion.
Mailed after the event 4km and 8km runs winners for each age category. Age categories - U15, U18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.
The run presentation ceremonies will be held at the completion of each running event at the finish line stage. Trophies will be given to first, second and third placegetters. It is expected that winners are present to accept their prize.
Team awards and presentations will be held on the main stage in the assembly area from 11.30am.
Runner's please note: Your results will be produced by net time. The timing tag attached to your race bib will record your official time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. However, trophies will be awarded to the first three males and females in each event based on gun time. So, if you feel you have a chance of placing, please run in the first wave of your chosen distance.
