More tips from MDC
There can be more to fundraising than asking family and friends to sponsor you by donating via your online fundraising page. If you want to take extra steps to bring in the fundraising dollars for breast cancer research check out some of our ideas below.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A virtual date – ask your friends to take you for coffee – a virtual coffee – OK so they miss the caffeine and the company but instead it means they donate the $5 to your online fundraising. Or take you out for a virtual dinner - $50 (or more) straight to fundraising!
Work your workplace – if your company has a newsletter tell them about the MDC and why you’re getting involved. Encourage colleagues to set up a work team to walk or run. Then promote your fundraising page in the newsletter, or via the company intranet site, or give out flyers. Raise extra funds at a work with a morning tea, or get everyone to dress in pink and pay a gold coin (and fine those that don’t!), start a fitness challenge or any idea you think will get your company involved and donating to your fundraising efforts and joining in with the MDC on Sunday 13 May.
Fitness Fan – you could ask friends to sponsor your training effort - if you plan to train for six weeks ask them to sponsor you $10 a week or $5 for every training session.
Sell your skills – offer to wash friends cars, babysit their kids, do some DIY, help them with book keeping or gardening in return for a donation.
Daredevil – tell everyone that once you reach a certain goal you will do something daring. It should help them give you more to see if you do! Then you could wear something wild at MDC, run faster or set a new PB. See our MDC fundraisers tips - Meaka in Queensland even got a pink ribbon tattoo after raising more than $5,000!
Guessing competition – fill a jar with jelly beans or other lollies and sit it in your work place and ask people to pay a gold coin to guess the amount of lollies in the jar. Then of course the most correct answer wins the jar of lollies.
Bake off – host a coffee morning or tea break at home or at work – bake your best cakes and cookies and ask your friends or work colleagues to donate dollars to attend. Or host a bake-off and ask colleagues to bring in a dish and everyone donates to eat the goodies.
Running record – if you’re running for the first time or plan on breaking last year’s record you could ask for sponsorship per km or per minute or for double stakes on their donation if you beat your personal best.
School support – if your kids’ school has a newsletter you could suggest they do a story on you and your family entering the Mother’s Day Classic. Or let them know that the MDC is the place to be on Mother’s Day and suggest the school enters as a team too. Or you could see if the school will let you host a fundraising event or have a casual clothes gold coin day.
Dining in – host a BBQ, sausage sizzle or dinner at home and ask friends to donate what they would have done if they were eating out at a restaurant… or more!

If you are raising extra funds by hosting a fundraising event, such as a bake-off or school event, then this is classified as community fundraising and you will need to fill in our special MDC Community fundraising form.
It just means you need to let the NBCF know what you’re doing and they will email you back with the authority to fundraise – it doesn’t take long and is worth it! Please have a look at NBCF Guidelines on community fundraising for more information.
