Sunday, 13 May will be the fifteenth Mother’s Day Classic. Since its inception in 1998 more than half a million women, men and children have walked or run on Mother’s Day raising $10.8 million for breast cancer research.

The 2011 Mother’s Day Classic was awarded the Best Charity or Cause-Related Event at the prestigious third annual Australian Event Awards held in Sydney last Thursday night.The Mother’s Day Classic is organised by Women in Super a national network of women in the superannuation and finance industries.

Mother's Day record for breast cancer research
A record 120,000 Australians stepped out for breast cancer research in the annual Mother’s Day Classic walk and run on Sunday 8 May. The highest number of participants in the event’s 14 year history attended 37 different events held across the nation.
“The community has come together in huge numbers right around the country in support of breast cancer research at the Mother’s Day Classic,” said Louise Davidson, National Chair, Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic.

Mother’s Day Classic wins Hobart’s Community Event of the Year Award
The Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic won Hobart City Council’s Community Event of the Year Award at the 2011 Sandy Bay Regatta Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony.
“We are proud to announce that the most outstanding community event of the year is the Mother’s Day Classic walk and run in aid of breast cancer research,” said the Lord Mayor, Rob Valentine.

MOTHER'S DAY CLASSIC RAISES $2.1 MILLION FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH
Australians across the country helped raise $2.1 million for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer in this year’s Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic. A record number of 100,000 people took part in the 2010 national fun run/walk and raised the highest amount of funds in the event’s thirteen year history.

GOVERNOR-GENERAL LAUNCHES THE MOTHER’S DAY CLASSIC 2010
The nation’s favourite charity walk and run in aid of breast cancer research launched today at a special ceremony hosted by its patron the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC.
The Governor-General encouraged Australians to set aside time on Sunday 9 May to participate and to “share in the enthusiastic support that brings out the camaraderie and friendships shared on the day.”
“I look forward immensely to walking with you in May, and to sharing the greater journey of breast cancer research with you,” said the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC.

Mother's Day Classic raises $5.7 million for breast cancer research - October 2009
If you have run or walked the national Mother’s Day Classic over the last 12 years since it began, you have helped raise $5.7 million for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
Individuals like Victorian Lindsay Mullins, the highest fundraiser in that state, have raised tens of thousands of dollars to try and stop the disease that took his young wife and affects 1 in 9 women in their lifetime.
