Become a team captain

"To be inspired is great, to inspire is incredible." Unknown. Inspire others to get involved in the Mother’s Day Classic and enjoy this festive and moving event together.

Mother’s Day Classic offers a fun way to bring your team together and raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. All funds raised go directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research programs.

There is no cost to create a team; each team member simply pays his or her registration fee.

How to set up a team

To captain a team you need to firstly register yourself via the online registration system. The first team member to register (usually the team captain) will be required to “create” the team during registration - there is a page which asks "Do you want to join or create a team?".

Once the team is created (and the individual who is creating the team has paid for their registration) new team members can join the team!

Whilst your team members will be part of a team, each member is to initially register through the online registration system as yourself/family. Once the event and race has been selected, team members will be prompted with a page asking if "you would like to join a team". Once selected that you wish to join a team, you can start typing the team name and a drop down menu will appear with team name(s). Select the correct team name to join the team and continue with your registration!

The team captain should make sure all potential team members have the name and correct spelling of the team set up, as well as the password. It is imperative that team members select the team name when prompted to do so during the registration process.

Recruit team members

Encourage friends, family and colleagues to join your team by sending out your team page link via email, posting on your social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn) or putting up posters at your workplace, gym, school, or local businesses. Once you share your team code, each team member will just to register and nominate your team to join.

Get your team involved in one of the various free walking or running groups that have been organised for the Mother's Day Classic. This is a great way to strengthen your team and get them ready for the big day.

Details on free training runs can be found here.

 Customise your team fundraising page

Make your team page your own by adding a personal message explaining how your team came together and why you choose to support breast cancer research. Upload photographs and/or your company logo. Your team page will display your team members’ names and links to their personal fundraising pages, as well as the team’s total fundraising goal.

Start fundraising

Mother’s Day Classic team are incredibly successful at fundraising. Every cent makes a difference and if each team member can raise just a few dollars that can make a huge difference. The more we raise, the faster a cure can be found.

Read about getting started (coming soon) with fundraising and check out our fundraising ideas.

The more people you have on a team, the more ambitious you can be with your fundraising. Ask team members to raise just $50 each and watch them surpass all expectations. Perhaps even, set up fundraising competitions within your team.

Keep your team members motivated

As team captain, it is your job to keep team members motivated and excited. Keep the enthusiasm up and send open emails congratulating team members who are being super successful with their fundraising.

Walk or run together OR HOST A MARQUEE

Organise a meeting place for your team to come together on the day. Marquees and hospitality packages are also available at most capital city and major metropolitan events.

We endeavour to provide our sponsors and other participants (businesses/teams) with the opportunity to set up an area for their members at our events, each location differs in the type of equipment and hospitality that can be hired and space can be limited. If you are interested in this service please contact for more information.

Dress up, enjoy the day!
