MDC Foundation Ltd as trustee for Mother’s Day Classic Foundation is a company limited by guarantee, and a public company with charitable status (MDC Foundation Limited ACN 604 328 994). MDC is governed by a Board elected by Women in Super.
All proceeds from the MDC Foundation Ltd are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment. Since 1998 the Mother’s Day Classic has raised $27.4 million dollars.
The Mother's Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Our aim is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast cancer.
Families, friends, colleagues, schoolmates, and corporate teams get into the spirit of the day with many sporting fancy dress and an abundance of pink. Many wear tribute cards dedicating their morning to loved ones who have been lost to or are currently fighting breast cancer. The festival atmosphere is also an opportunity to celebrate the life of survivors and enjoy a fun and healthy morning on Mother’s Day.
The Mother’s Day Classic was established in 1998 and is organised by volunteer National MDC Committees, the volunteers are mainly sourced from the Women in Super network - a national not-for-profit organisation of women working in the superannuation and finance industries.
The initiative was inspired by the knowledge that research is gradually improving the survival rate of the one in nine women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer by the age of 85.
With a small team of only 10 office staff, the majority of people who work for the MDC Foundation Ltd, the Mother’s Day Classic is largely supported by volunteers predominantly from the Women in Super network.
The success of the Mother’s Day Classic is due to the hard work and commitment of volunteers across the country who are willing to work together and go the extra mile for a cause that affects so many lives – breast cancer.
