Women in Super (WIS) is a national advocacy and networking group for women employed in the superannuation and financial services industries.
WIS advocates on behalf of its members and women generally to government, politicians, unions, employer organisations, regulators, and superannuation funds to improve women’s retirement outcomes and access to superannuation. Women currently retire with half the superannuation savings of men yet on average live longer so actually need more super. WIS is working hard to change this situation for current and future generations of women.
Through providing networking events and professional development and speaking opportunities, WIS assists women to broaden their knowledge and professional and personal networks, and aims to educate the greater community about the importance of superannuation. WIS strongly supports and encourages the appointment of women to superannuation fund boards, and works with other organisations and stakeholders to achieve this.
Each year, WIS oversees the organisation of the Mother’s Day Classic, a national fun run and walk established by the network to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. WIS does this primarily through forming organising committees made up of volunteers drawn primarily from the superannuation industry. These volunteer committees take care of key tasks such as sourcing sponsors, engaging with local media and arranging entertainment for on the day.
If you would like to read more about how WIS performed in 2016, as well as some integrated MDC information, view the WIS and MDCF 2016 Annual Review.
