VIC - Elwood/Brighton
We are delighted to announce a Mother's Day Classic Local Location at Elwood/Brighton!
Local locations will be smaller and more informal compared to traditional MDC events, but they will be big on community spirit!
This location is perfect for walking, cycling or public transport. There are plenty of bike racks along the beach path
There is parking near Wattie Watson oval, behind the Elwood Life Sailing Club and down Head Street.
If you are considering arriving by public transport the nearest train stations are Elsternwick and Gardenvale on the Sandringham line. They are both approx. 30 minute walk from the start line, there is a bus from Elsternwick station.
There are a number of buses that run near the Elwood venue.
Bus 600 (Southland Shopping Centre - St Kilda Station) stops near the corner of Head St and St Kilda Street.
Bus 603 (Brighton Beach - Alfred Hospital via Elsternwick Station) stops near the corner of Head St and New St
Bus 630 (Elwood - Monash University via Gardenvale & Ormond & Huntingdale) stops the corner of Head St and Drake St.

If public transport is used participants are reminded to adhere to the COVID safe rules at the time. This includes wearing a mask and socially distancing where possible.
There will be a check in area on the grass, just south of Head street, between the walking path and the bike path. Look for the pink Mother's Day Classic flags and the welcoming volunteers.
There are a number of public toilets throughout the route:
- in between Elwood Life Saving Club and Elwood Bathers
- At the end of North Road next to the North Point Café
- At the end of Middle Brighton Pier next to Middle Brighton Baths
On the day you'll be able to donate funds via the collection tins or electronically via the SMS donation number (0488 849 632)
All MDC Local Locations will have a qualified first aid officer on site. First aid will be located at the location event arrival site.
Food & drink
BYO water in reusable bottles, use any available water dispensers at the site, no water stations will be provided.
Please bring your own snacks and support your local food and beverage businesses on your way to the site and/or on your way home.
There are a number of cafes at the start of, and along the route serving take away drinks and food;
- Wild Gypsea collective cafe -on the way into the carpark near the start, off Ormond Esplanade near Elwood Sailing Club and Elwood Life Saving Club
- Elwood Bathers -on Elwood Foreshore not far from the start of the event on the beachfront
- North Point Cafe - at the end of North Rd along the route near the water and kids playground. Thanks, North Point Cafe for your generous donation!
- Middle Brighton Baths - at the point in the route you turn around to walk back towards Elwood, on Brighton Esplanade. Thanks, Middle Brighton Baths for your generous donation!
All dogs/pets must be on leads.

COVIDSafe statement: This event will be conducted in accordance with all COVIDSafe requirements and practices as determined by the state health department. A COVIDSafe checklist/plan has been completed for this event to ensure the safety of all participants.
While this year will look a little different, you’ll still be able to dress up, complete your walk/run, honour those touched by breast cancer and enjoy the community spirit on the day. All you need to do is bring along your race pack (which will be delivered to your door beforehand), arrive at your assigned time, use your phone to scan the QR code at your location and complete one or two laps of the course. Don’t forget to share your happy snaps and tag #mdc2021!
