Lauren Couter – Classic Fundraising Legend

16 Oct 2018

Congratulations to Lauren Couter, who this year was welcomed as a Mother’s Day Classic Fundraising Legend. Classic Legends are exceptional fundraisers who have raised over $100,000 for breast cancer research. Lauren has been fundraising since the first Mother’s Day Classic event in Canberra, back in 2007 when it was held on Dairy Flat Rd.

We asked Lauren about what drives her to fundraise for the cause.

“The MDC is a perfect example of where women are supporting other women.  And I can do that.  I may not have had breast cancer, or have lost family or friends to this disease, but I can run 10km.  And I can ask for money.  I support breast cancer research because I believe that it will underpin the finding of a cure for all cancers.

I’m not deserving of any accolades for this. My family, friends and colleagues in the Canberra Construction industry deserve those accolades, as they support me year after year after year. It’s the women who are fighting breast cancer, the women that have fought breast cancer, the women that have lost the battle against breast cancer that deserve the accolades.

I fundraise to show my daughter how we can help.  I fundraise so that my daughter won’t have to worry about getting breast cancer.

Every year I ask myself “Will I run and fundraise again next year?”, and every year I get touched by another heartbreaking story of someone with breast cancer.  And until I stop hearing those stories (or until my knees give out) I’ll keep on running!“

Lauren will be running in the 10km Canberra event with in 2019 and says “In 2019, my daughter will go in the 5km event (which means I will need to run 15km!)”.

We wish you the best of luck Lauren!
