Australia unites for breast and ovarian cancer research

11 May 2025

Pink and teal have taken over the country as more than 90,000 people turned out for the 2025 Mother’s Day Classic, founded by Women in Super, to honour those impacted by breast and ovarian cancer and fund research into these deadly diseases.

With proceeds from the 2025 Mother’s Day Classic donated to both the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation for the second year, participants have been able to choose to support and fundraise for breast cancer research, ovarian cancer research or both. Fundraising remains open until June 30, 2025 and the final donation total will be revealed in August.

This bold initiative has been strongly supported by the community, with fundraising efforts shaping up to result in the largest donation in than more than a decade.

The Mother’s Day Classic, Australia’s biggest fun run and walk for breast and ovarian cancer research, was held at 85 locations in major cities, metro areas and regional towns across the nation. People also took part in the annual fundraiser by choosing a day, a time and a location that suited them in their own local area.

“Every year the Mother’s Day Classic is more than just an event – it’s a meaningful ritual for tens of thousands of women and families across Australia,” MDC Foundation CEO Zara Lawless said.

“It’s always heartwarming to see so many families and friends come together on Mother’s Day, to remember, to celebrate and to hope for a future where breast and ovarian cancer no longer take the lives of the women we love.

“We are thrilled by such a strong turnout, 90,000 people at 85 events nationwide, and appreciate everyone who has come out today to participate, volunteer or donate in support of breast and ovarian cancer research.

“But the work doesn’t stop here. Every additional dollar raised in the coming weeks will help to fund critical research through the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, improving health outcomes for women now and for generations to come

Donations open until 30 June, 2025.
