How do sponsors contribute to the Mother’s Day Classic?

The Mother’s Day Classic is proud to partner with a wide range of partners and sponsors who help create an engaging and inspiring event experience for MDC participants.

The sponsorship revenue received from partners and sponsors contributes to the cost of staging up to 100 events annually and in return the MDC delivers exceptional digital and physical high reach participant engagement opportunities, in addition to measurable branding, marketing, CSR, staff engagement and health and wellbeing benefits.

REGISTRATION

What is Mother’s Day Classic Local?

In 2021, you’ll be joining a special community who are coming together to honour the 1 in 7 Australian women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Every adult participant will receive access to our online portal and a race pack full of goodies such as medal, backpack, race bib, headscarf, start/finish line ribbon and sponsor goodies (valued at over $30). You can train for 5km, 10km or choose your own distance. Walk, jog or run, it’s completely up to you! On Mother’s Day, set out to achieve your goal in your own time and place or at one of our local locations.  Children will receive a backpack, race bib and medallion as well some fun stencils and chalk.  Don’t forget your furry friends, as they will receive a gorgeous bandana with the pet registration.  

When is the Mother's Day Classic Local?

We are challenging you to get active for breast cancer research on Mother’s Day, Sunday 9th May 2021. But in 2021, the Mother’s Day Classic is so much more than one day. You’ll be joining a special community who are coming together to celebrate and honour the 1 in 7 Australian women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. In the lead up to Mother’s Day, you will have the opportunity to fundraise, make a tribute, join our training period, connect with other participants, access the online portal, and get involved in competitions along the way.

What distance do I need to run or walk?

You can set your own goal for Mother’s Day Classic Local. You can train for 5km, 10km or choose your own distance. Walk, jog or run, it’s completely up to you! You will have the opportunity to join our training program starting on April 7th (World Health Day), track your training via the Portal and share your achievements within our exclusive Facebook group.

What does my ticket price include?

Your adult registration fee includes a race pack (valued over $30) with a commemorative medallion, race bib, limited-edition scarf, backpack, start/finish line ribbon as well as some amazing sponsor giveaways – everything you need to bring the Mother’s Day Classic to life in your local area. We have a special kid’s race pack (valued over $30) for our young MDC fans to enjoy as well as a bandana for our MDC furry friends to wear too! Your registration also includes exclusive access to your Portal where you can track your kilometres, collect donations and access content to keep you motivated in the lead up to Mother’s Day. This includes fitness and wellness content, Mother’s Day recipe ideas and even a kid’s zone.

What if I do not want to receive a race pack?

Your registration fee includes our limited edition race pack with everything you need to bring your Mother’s Day Classic experience to life in your local area including a medallion, race bib, backpack, start/finish line ribbon and sponsor goodies. This race pack is an “event experience” delivered directly to your door!

If you do not want to receive a race pack, you can email administration@mothersdayclassic.com.au within 48 hours after you register and request that your race pack not be sent. We are, however, unable to offer any discount or refund in these circumstances but please know that we will ensure that your race pack is put to good use.

What if the Mother's Day Classic Local is impacted by COVID-19 restrictions?

Unlike many events, the Mother’s Day Classic Local event is a flexible, scalable and safe community event that can adapt to any change in circumstances.  Your registration fee includes a race pack valued over $30 (an event experience delivered directly to your door!), access to an exclusive on-line Portal and the ability to be part of a special community uniting on Mother’s Day to celebrate and honour the lives of those touched by breast cancer. Participants can choose to walk or run in their own time and place or at one of over 70 Local locations.  These local locations, while smaller in size and more informal in nature, will be big on community spirit!  If COVID restrictions mean that local locations cannot be held in your part of the country, don’t worry, your race pack and Portal access will equip you with everything you need to enjoy a fun and inspirational MDC experience in whatever way the restrictions allow.  For this reason, registration fees are non-refundable.

How do I find out more about COVID safe events?

Some Mother’s Day Classic Local Locations have now been announced, click here to find your nearest location. Local locations will be determined in accordance with Government guidelines.

What if I want to bring a friend along on the day who hasn’t registered? 

If there is capacity for extra participants to be added to a particular wave on the day, they will need to register beforehand to ensure that they are accounted for in participation numbers. 

What will the Mother’s Day Classic look like next year? 

With uncertainty still surround events in Australia, the Mother’s Day Classic Local allows the community to get active for breast cancer research in a more informal, community focused way. By minimising our risks and costs, we can ensure we are donating as much as possible to life-saving breast cancer research. We will be taking all feedback on board as we plan for Mother’s Day Classic 2022!

LOCAL LOCATIONS

What happens if my Local location can’t go ahead because of any new COVID-19 restrictions?

 Why are there no locations near me?

In 2021, we have over 70 Local locations, covering metro, urban and regional locations in every state and territory in Australia.  In smaller suburbs and towns, we rely on the generosity of volunteer hosts to help us bring these Local locations to life.

If there is no Local location in your part of the country, don’t worry, your race pack and Portal access will equip you with everything you need to enjoy a fun and inspirational MDC experience in whatever way the restrictions allow. But don’t despair if you miss out, you can always arrange your own team either at one of the confirmed locations or a location of your choice in your own time.

How do I book a spot at a Local location?

  1. Log in to your Dashboard
  2. Select your location and arrival time. If you registered others, they will also be allocated to this time slot.
  3. Receive your confirmation email and you’re all set! You can change your selected time and location at any time (subject to availability) by selecting the “change my location” option on your portal page.
  4. Don’t forget to let your friends and family know where and when you’re taking part in case they want to join you 

How do I change my location / wave?

If you change your mind, simply log into your portal and select the “change my location” option.

Your ability to change location or time is, of course, subject to availability (please note that spots are limited due to capacity restrictions).  You will automatically be taken out of your time slot once you have selected a new one. You will receive another confirmation email with this new information.  Keep in mind if you change your Local location or time, then that will change all those your registered for.  If you only want to change some of the group, then please contact administration@mothersdayclassic.com.au

What if I don’t want to attend a Local location?

You can let us know by heading to the portal and clicking  (choose my own time and place). 

The beauty of Mother’s Day Classic Local is that you can choose how you wish to celebrate on the day, either at a Local location or in your own time or place. All participants will still receive a limited-edition race pack (valued at $30) including a medallion, race bib, backpack, start/finish line ribbon and sponsor goodies. Adults will also receive a limited-edition head scarf and our special kids’ race pack includes chalk and stencils. Our furry friends can get a pet bandana, so that every member of the family can join in on the fun (but check your location details to see if pets are allowed by council at that particular spot)!

What happens if I feel unwell on the day?

On Mother’s Day if you have been instructed to quarantine by the Department of Health, or if you are unwell or experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 you won’t be able to participate and must stay home. Participants also need to act in accordance with their relevant public health advice before, after and during the MDC activities.

Will Local locations be COVID safe?

Mother’s Day Classic Local will be conducted in accordance with all COVIDSafe requirements and practices as determined by the relevant state or territory health department. A COVID Safe checklist/plan has been completed for this event to ensure the safety of all participants. COVID safe procedures for your location will be communicated to you prior to the event along with a runner/walker code of conduct, please ensure you follow these when on site at any MDC activity.

My team captain booked in for this wave, doesn’t that mean the whole team can walk/run together?

Those who registered in the same transaction are assigned to the same location and time slot, however, this does not apply to the entire team. This is because many of our national teams or larger teams who don’t want to physically participate in the same way but want to be a part of the same team. If your team want to be together on the day, you can change your start time by logging into your portal (assuming capacity). 

What happens if there aren’t enough spaces available for my whole team to attend a Local location.

You may need to swap your time and/or location if your preferred spot is full and your teammates are unable to book in. We recommend that you log in early to your portal to view spaces available at other Locations or times. Alternatively, you can choose to participate as a team in your local area, in your own time, if you are unable to all get into the same Local location. The Mother’s Day Classic is a special community of thousands, across Australia who are united by a goal to stop breast cancer. Even if your team can’t take part in the same time or place, remember that we are all in this together, supporting and honouring loved ones, raising funds and coming together for an important cause.

How can I access my receipt?

You will receive receipt of your booking via an automated confirmation email.

How will MDC communicate information to participants?

Mother’s Day Classic will email participants via the administration@mothersdayclassic.com.au  email address.  In addition, you may receive an SMS from MDC2021. If you are in doubt about any communications, please contact us through the above email address!

Will Local locations be similar to previous Mother’s Day Classic physical events?

Local locations will be smaller in size and more informal in nature but BIG in community spirit! On the day, you’ll be able to dress up, bring your race pack along and get active with your Local community.  

If I am attending a Local location, what do I need to do on the day?

  1. Arrive at your designated Local location at your assigned Arrival Time (this is very important for COVIDSafe reasons)
  2. Follow follow the current guidelines that are set by your local, state and federal government, particularly with respect to the wearing of masks. For state and federal COVID information please visit https://www.australia.gov.au/
  3. Remember to bring your race pack and merchandise!
  4. Head to the MDC flags where you’ll be welcomed by the MDC team. Here you will scan the QR code and check in with our volunteers if you need to. Please make sure you follow the COVIDSafe Health Screening instructions
  5. Make a donation if you can and then start your walk/run around the course!
  6. Look out for MDC markers or volunteers to help you along the way
  7. Run or walk through the race ribbon
  8. Support local business on your way home!

What happens if I can’t attend my Local location anymore?

If you need to cancel or change, simply log in to your portal and change your preference to choose your own time and place. That way it will free up a spot for others.

Do I need to bring my own water bottle?

In line with COVIDSafe guidelines to minimise all touchpoints, food and beverage, including water units, will not be available on-location.  To ensure you are properly hydrated please bring your own water and remember to use re-usable water bottles to minimise waste and support our sustainable practices.

What do I need to do if I am running late? 

We have accounted for some participants being late so just turn up as soon as you can and make sure you scan the QR code so that we can account for your arrival.

I wasn’t impressed with these smaller/more informal locations. 

This year, the Mother’s Day Classic is all about bringing local communities together in a flexible and scalable way. With so much uncertainty surrounding mass participation events in Australia, we wanted to create an experience that allowed the community to get active for breast cancer research in a more informal, community focused way. By minimising our risks and costs, we can ensure we are donating as much as possible to life-saving breast cancer research and we can’t thank you enough for being a part of it! We will take your feedback on board as we plan for Mother’s Day Classic 2022.

Why don’t we have timing chips this year?

Local locations are smaller in size and more informal in nature compared to traditional Mother’s Day Classic mass participation events, therefore we were unable to implement timing this year. Participants are more than welcome to time their walk/run with their smart watch or mobile phone.

TEAMS

How do I create a team?

During the registration process, you will be asked if you would like to join or create a team. Select ‘create a team’ and then input your team name, fundraising target and team type. After your registration, you can invite a friend through the portal.  Go to the invite a friend tab and enter their email address.

How do I join an exisiting team?

During the registration process, you will be asked if you would like to join or create a team. If someone has already set up a team name, you can select ‘join a team’ and start typing the team name that you would like to join. The team name will appear in the dropdown menu.

How can I see who is in my team?

When you log in to your page, you will be able to see a ‘My Team’ section in the left-hand navigation menu. Here you will be able to view your team members, edit your page and ask for support.

PAYMENT

How can I access my receipt?

After you register for Mother’s Day Classic Local, you will receive a registration confirmation email with your tax receipt attached. This will include your personal donation if you made one. If you need another copy of your receipt, please contact administration@mothersdayclassic.com.au

I have changed my mind - can I get a refund?

As per the 2021 MDC Participant Terms and Conditions  registration fees are non-refundable.  Many of the costs and fees of running the MDC and delivering the exclusive on-line portal and race packs have already been incurred before you register (prior to the event commencing) and we are therefore unable to offer refunds for change of mind.

RACE PACKS

What is included in my race pack?

We also have a special kid’s race pack for our young MDC fans with chalk and stencils. We also have a bandana for our MDC furry friends to wear too!

I haven’t received my race pack yet, when is it due to arrive? 

If you haven’t received your pack and you have been waiting over two weeks, please email administration@mothersdayclassic.com.au and the team will follow this up for you.

Can I swap my child race pack for an adult one?

If you wish to receive an adult race pack for your child, you will need to purchase an adult registration. Once your transaction is complete, we cannot make amendments to the registration type.

Why can’t we purchase packs or merchandise on the day? 

Due to COVID safety regulations, we are unable to set up stations to sell race packs or merchandise. You can purchase merchandise online and it will be delivered to you as soon as possible.

MERCHANDISE

When will my merchandise arrive?

Your merchandise will be sent out within 5 business days of receipt of order via Australia Post.  Merchandise shipment begins from Tuesday 2 February 2021, if you place an order before this time, it will be shipped during that week. You will receive tracking details so that you can keep a close eye on your precious bundle!  Don’t forget to order your limited edition 2021 items early to avoid disappointment.

Can I exchange sizes for my merchandise?

Due to very limited edition stock in 2021, we cannot guarantee exchange. If you wish to make an exchange, please contact administration@mothersdayclassic.com.au for further information.

VIRTUAL PORTAL

How do I track my kilometres and training?

Follow these steps to track your training on your page via a fitness app:

  1. Download the FitbitStravaor MapMyFitness appand set up your account
  2. Log in to your Mother’s Day Classic account.
  3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your account
  5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

When using MapMyFitness, you must ‘start’ your workout, ‘stop’ your workout and then ‘SAVE’ your workout.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

Remember, you can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your My Fitness Activity tab of your profile after registering. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.

Follow these steps to manually add your KMs:

  1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’
  2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
  3. The number of KMs will now appear on your fundraising page!

DONATIONS AND FUNDRAISING

How do I view who has donated to my page?

To view your donations, you will need to log into your account and visit the ‘My Donations’ tab on the left-hand navigation menu or from the top menu bar where you see your name. Here you will be able to view your donors and thank them for supporting you. You will also be able to add an ‘offline donation’ if you have collected cash donations that you would like to be displayed on your page.

Where does my registration fee go?

The Mother’s Day Classic raises life-saving funds through community fundraising, online fundraising, donations and registration fees. Once event and administration costs have been deducted, proceeds are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to fund life?changing research. MDCF endeavours to keep costs low so as much as possible can be donated. A portion of your registration fee may go to the NBCF for breast cancer research but it also covers the cost of hosting the Mother’s Day Classic event across the country, including but not limited to the contents and handing of participant race packs, insurance, the registration system, infrastructure, safety, risk and event management, council fees and music licences, on-line portal and website, signage, waste management and the costs of our small but dedicated team that works year round to bring the Mother’s Day Classic to life. We rely on sponsorship, in-kind support and volunteers in order to help subsidise these costs so we can maximise our donation to research. To date, the Mother’s Day Classic has donated $37.95 million dollars to the NBCF.

How do I donate on the day?

Various locations will have ‘tap and go’ donation accepting donations on the day. If anyone cannot access these on Mother’s Day, they can donate directly via the website https://www.mothersdayclassic.com.au/event/mothers-day-classic-2021/donate
