Support my efforts in the 2024 Mother’s Day Classic!
On Sunday 12 May, I'm putting my foot down to save lives.
The Mother’s Day Classic is a cause that sits very close to my heart. So this year, I am challenging myself as someone new to running to smash out this 12km run.
Yes, it’s Mother’s Day, but I will be dedicating this run to my Pa. It has been 10 years since breast cancer took him away from us, a cancer that many people are not aware that men can get. He was a fighter, he is my role model. When the running gets tough, I will think of him and remember not to give up. I know that he would be proud.
I have been lucky enough to find out last year at the age of 21 that I had not inherited the BRAC2 gene mutation. This is a gene that runs in my family and predisposes affected individuals to a very high chance of developing breast and ovarian cancer in their lifetime.
Through research we can make a difference when it comes to breast and ovarian cancer. I feel that this is my chance to help make a difference to the future and to those who are fighting cancer.
I have lost many loved ones to cancer, we need to kick it in the butt for good.
To my Pa, this is for you. There is never a day that goes by that I do not think of you and your strength.
