The Mother's Day Classic (MDC) has once again shown the extraordinary generosity of the Australian community, donating $3.45 million to breast and ovarian cancer research from this year's event.
The result brings the MDC's total fundraising since 1998 to more than $54 million, a milestone reached over 29 years of Australians coming together every Mother's Day to walk, run and give back.
Of this year's donation, $2.138 million will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to fund breast cancer research, and $1.312 million to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) to fund ovarian cancer research, in line with participants' selections.
This is an extraordinary result, but what sits behind it is even more powerful. Behind every contribution is a story, a loved one, a personal challenge, a family, a friendship or colleagues showing their support. That is the heart of the Mother’s Day Classic and together we are turning that hope into action through research.” said Zara Lawless, CEO of the Mother's Day Classic Foundation.
Next year's Mother's Day Classic, on Sunday 9 May 2027, will mark a defining moment for the event: three decades of honouring, remembering and taking action against breast and ovarian cancer.
As we look towards 30 years of the Mother’s Day Classic, there is so much to be proud of and so much more we want to achieve. We have seen what research can change and we know what is possible when our community unites with hope and determination. In 2027, we will honour how far we have come while continuing to drive change and create hope through research, ” said Zara Lawless, CEO of the Mother's Day Classic Foundation.
