SUPPORTING Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research

My why...

Hi everyone,

For the past 17 years, Mother’s Day has looked a little different for me.

Instead of sleeping in or being waited on with breakfast in bed (a concept I still find fascinating), I’ve been up at 5am pulling on my joggers, every hot pink item I own and — of course — the famous pink bra, heading out for the Mother’s Day Classic.

My first was when Paiton was just 10 months old, strapped into a jogging pram. I remember running behind a dad and his three young kids, each with “I’m doing this for Mum” written across their shirts. The youngest couldn’t have been more than six. That moment stayed with me.

Over the years, this event has become deeply personal. I run for women I love — my beautiful mother-in-law Lesley, my aunty Karen, and my dear friends Michelle and Haidee — and for so many others whose lives have been touched by breast and ovarian cancer.

My girls often ask why I don’t just relax, spa-hop or milk the Mother’s Day treatment (tempting, I won’t lie). But something in my heart tells me this day is about showing them what matters — compassion, resilience and doing something bigger than ourselves.

Running has never really been my thing. Ballet and yoga? Yes. Running? Questionable. But then again, being told you have breast or ovarian cancer isn’t anyone’s thing either. The strength it takes to face that battle every day is far greater than any finish line.

So this year, I’m pushing myself further than ever.

Since January, I’ve been training four times a week with Flying Feet Running Co. Under the strict guidance of my friend Emily- Doctor of Philosophy in Neurophysiology to help me take on my very first half marathon — 21km in Melbourne, on a course I don’t know, in a state I’ve never raced in. Right now, 10km feels like an achievement… so this is equal parts inspiring and absolutely terrifying.

I’m running for the women fighting.
For the families beside them.
For those we’ve lost.
And for my daughters — in the hope they never have to face this disease themselves.

If you feel moved to support, I would be so grateful for a donation — big, small or the price of your latte — to help fund life-saving research for breast and ovarian cancer.

Together, we turn steps into hope.

With love, gratitude and slightly sore calves,
Bx

P.S. If nothing else, your donation validates the alarming amount of pink activewear currently living in my wardrobe.
