SUPPORTING Breast Cancer Research
On Sunday 10 May, I'm taking part in the Adelaide Mother's Day Classic for women's cancer research
I’m really proud to be a Mother's Day Classic Community Ambassador wanted to share my motivation for the role and fundraiser:
My mum, Rosetta, was first diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 1996. Thanks to early detection and treatment, mum got to see four children grow up and became a beloved ‘Nonna’ to four grandchildren. However, after being in remission for 23 years, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2019 and passed away at the end of 2024 following a long and brave battle.
My family and I are grateful for the initial early detection that saved mum’s life 30 years ago and wanted to encourage others on the importance of being proactive with health checks. We then got to witness the incredible impact that ongoing advances in treatment and care available had on extending and improving mum’s quality of life, which would not have been possible without continued funding, awareness and research.
Mum always encouraged others to keep a positive perspective through character building days, greatly valued kindness and compassion and loved showing up so powerfully to support family, friends and her local community. My hope is that sharing mum’s story keeps her fighting spirit alive, honours her values and inspires others to support each other through their local communities as well.
Finally if my fundraising goal is reached prior to the event... I'll colour my hair pink to match my 2026 MDC shirt! If you have capacity to support an important cause close to my family and so many others, get involved in your local Mother's Day Classic, whether it be through walking, running, donating or just sharing and encouraging others - it all counts.
…and if you’re simply just curious to see how I’d look moving around the beautiful Adelaide course on Mother's Day with bright pink hair, any additional donations would go toward this as well!
