SUPPORTING Breast Cancer Research
My Why
My Ma.
I’ll never fully comprehend the level of strength and determination Ma has.
Growing up, that’s just who she was, my superwoman, my Ma. When she was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, Ma overcoming it was just a given in my head. Being 8, I couldn’t understand the amount of courage it would’ve taken to accept and tackle such a monumental life hurdle. But she fought - that’s what she does. It made me appreciate life, appreciate having a loving mother to look up to and simply appreciate her company.
I’m a believer that there are certain moments in life that always stay with you. Ones that no matter how long its been, you can close your eyes and be exactly where you were in a moment in time.
One of those moments was late last year in Brisbane, getting off the train and into the car after Ma’s consult. There were no words. Her face said everything. Heartbreak, and yet that familiar feeling of strength and certainty.
Following Ma’s second diagnosis, through her surgery and radiation, I saw first hand as an adult, how resilient my Ma is. I love her for her stubbornness - determined to hold her breath for one second longer than the day before and walk a few steps further than the nurses thought she could. Through all of life’s everyday struggles and challenges, I try bringing myself back to what really matters. Our family and our health.
This past 6-months has brought me so much closer to Pa and Akka. It’s given me a deeper sense of appreciation of Papa’s efforts keeping the family together 15 years ago and drove me to support him in every way I could this time around. The strength from family is unexplainable.
Without an inch of a doubt, Ma is the strongest person I know.
She is my why. My why for running this event, my why for fighting for my family and my why for always having hope.
On Sunday 10 May, I'm putting my foot down to save lives.
I’m joining the Mother’s Day Classic to help raise funds and awareness to fight breast and ovarian cancers.
Tragically, every day in Australia 63 people diagnosed and 12 lose their lives to breast or ovarian cancer.
I’m asking you to do more than just stand with me but to support me as I walk, run, and move till we’re done.
Please make a donation today to support my challenge. There’s only one way to stop breast and ovarian cancers - together!
Thank you for your support.
