SUPPORTING Ovarian Cancer Research
Pause the prognosis ...
I’m joining the Mother’s Day Classic to help raise funds and awareness to fight breast and ovarian cancers.
This cause is close to me in both a personal and professional sense.
Professionally, I work as a Radiation Therapist and am privileged to have a small role to play in the journey of those affected by breast and ovarian cancer - whether that be patients, their families or friends.
Personally, my Nana Evelyn sadly passed away from ovarian cancer after a 5-year battle in 2020 - unfortunately she was not alone in her fight. Due to non-specific symptoms and lack of an official screening program, ovarian cancer is commonly detected in later stages. By detection, disease has often spread throughout the body, significantly reducing patients’ chance of survival. Currently, only 49% of patients survive 5 years past diagnosis - a stark contrast to the 94% of patients who live past 5 years following a prostate cancer diagnosis …
Nevertheless, despite her poor prognosis, Nana was determined to fight the disease and be there for all family milestones. Wig on, or rocking a shaved head post chemo, Nana made sure she was there …. tired and constantly fighting an uphill battle.
Working alongside patients affected by cancer now, her strength and courage continues to inspire and guide me professionally to make a difference in the lives I am fortunate to care for.
I hope that you can support me - any donation no matter how small goes a long way in this fight!
Thank you, your support is so much appreciated. <3
